The Herd at Eden Ranch All 21 of the horses at Eden Ranch live in a herd, free in the pastures and barefoot. They all have different and amazing personalities, which never fail to capture the heart of all the guests who choose to spend a vacation in this beautiful corner of paradise.
The herd began with Susanna's first horse, a prized English Throughbred named Empripjat, which she purchased when she was living in Italy. After moving to the Domincan Republic, she began to rescue local horses in dire need of a new home and thus the Eden herd was born. The herd has now been roaming free for over twenty years and spans over three generations. The horses are never rented out nor are they marketed for horseback riding. Their primary purpose is to be free, to educate and to enlighten us. This Ranch has been dedicated to the care, protection and well being of these magnificent creatures to preserve their natural, inner essence. Being able to grow and to be free in their natural environment ensures that these horses can mentally develop their full personality and herd behavior. There is a lot to learn about horse behavior. How the alpha mare takes care or disciplines the herd's members, the role of the stallion, how youngsters learn and conquer their space in the social realm of their community, how they behave in front of different unusual situations, what seems to be their ongoing game, how they play and more. By living at Eden Ranch, guests have the opportunity to share space and time with the horses when they please, being able to observe how they interact with each other within their natural hierarchical system. |
